Removals & Storage what do they do?
Removal companies will offer you the One Stop Shop for your removals and storage. They can provide the full packing service, removals and storage. Many large removal companies now also provide Self Storage. Removal companies will normally visit your house to provide you with an accurate quotation and check the access to your property while they are there. They will provide a quote which should be broken down into packing, removing and storage. The most expensive thing like with most things is the Labour, people’s time costs money.
Packing
Removal companies will offer this comprehensive service which will involve removal men coming to your house or flat 1 or 2 days before the removal is to take place to pack your belongings. The materials which they will require will usually be included in the total packing price. They will be experienced and pack all your breakables carefully and will usually wrap sensitive items such as sofa’s to ensure they are not damaged in transit or storage. They will use cardboard, bubble wrap, packing peanuts and cling wrap to protect your goods. This will cause you some disruption as you will have strangers in your house for most of the day.
Removals
Large removal companies all have specialist vehicles for removals which carry all the materials which they will require when transporting your goods. These vehicles are large and could cause obstruction in your street, if the removal company needs a parking permit they should organise it themselves.
The vehicles will carry items including blankets to avoid your goods rattling when being moved from A to B and storage containers which goods will be immediately packed into. The reason that removal companies will pack your goods directly into storage containers is that it saves time at the storage depot as they them need only to be unloaded via forklift truck and placed in their storage location. This saves labour time and you money and also reduces risk of them being damaged as the time your goods are at most risk is during packing and unpacking. Storage
Your goods will be traditionally be packed into 5ft x 7ft wooden crates. You will be charged a weekly rate per crate. These crates will hold the same as a 30sqft Self Storage room as they are a little smaller in height. These are then stacked in large Warehouses usually in Industrial areas. If you want access to your goods whilst in storage you will need to give the company some notice and you will likely be charged for it. Unlike Self Storage this is not a place geared up for customers coming and going from their belongings. This is geared to provide people with a service that picks up the goods from where they are, store them, and deliver them back to the new address.
