Tips and Guidance for packing.

  • Make a list of your stuff before packing particularly the expensive items.
  • Label each box with what is going in.
  • Secure each box with packing tape correctly.
  • Put tape around any gaps in the box to stop dust getting in, even the cleanest Self Storage will have some dust, just like your house.
  • Don’t fill large boxes with heavy items; they end up being too heavy to lift.
  • Use Bubble wrap to wrap fragile items before placing in the box.
  • Do no pack anything in the boxes which carries moisture.
  • Use tape on mirrors and glass to ensure it doesn’t break, and X across the surface will usually strengthen the glass.
  • Books must be laid flat in the box as the spines will be damaged if stored vertically.
  • Buying a dustsheet to go over your goods and boxes is wise as it will give extra protection for dust.
  • Try to store electrical items in their original boxes where possible.
  • Don’t use unsuitable boxes from the local supermarket; it is likely they will be no good for storage.
  • Specifically try to get boxes for storage.
  • BE CAREFUL WHEN LIFTING BOXES BOTH FOR YOU AND THE GOODS INSIDE!
